CENOTE X´KEKEN

 

The sinkhole was discovered in 1950 by a farmer who was looking for his

lost pig, which had fallen into the water, before this event, nobody knew

that the site had a deep water spring inside the earth. It was from this

anecdot that it had taken  its name from  because; pig in Maya means

“x’keken”

 

This cenote, also called Dzitnup, is inside an underground cavern,

where you can watch formation of awkward stalactites.

Its waters are crystal clear of turquoise blue, which are colored by

the sun shining through the hole which is in the middle of the vault. This

cenote is ideal for swimming and watch different fish, as it has shallow

waters.

CENOTE X-CANCHÉ

 

Cooperative society located at 1.6 km from the archaeological site of Ek

Balam. Nature, adventure, food and rescue of the Maya traditions are

combined. Security on the performance of activities and quietness allow

you to enjoy these magical waters.

 

Routes and services: rappel, canopy, camping, kayaking, snorkeling,

mountain biking, Mayan ceremonies, regional food and rest areas.

At this point in time you can set and meet live some ancient Mayan

ceremony.

One of the wonders of Yucatan is the cenote. For the Maya represented the entrance to the underworld, and is now an oasis for rest and relaxation.

 

It is considered suitable to visit those of easy access; it is possible to find some sort of service, where you may perform different activities.

 

 

 

CENOTE SUYTUN

 

Suytun means “Stone Center” in Maya and is the most important ceremonial cenote because its inhabitants engaged their offerings to Ixchel (goddess of fertility) and Yum Kaax (God of corn god). This cenote is located at 8 kilometer, from the ValladolidPuerto Juarez Road, within the Suytun resort. There are other five cenotes within the outskirts, however only two of them are open to the public.

 

These can be visited from Monday through Sunday from 8:00 to 18:00 hrs.

 

CENOTE SAMULA

 

Samula, means “Downed sands”.  The vault of this cenote was opened by the roots from a tree, which descend to find the water, allowing also to the sunlight to penetrate and lighten the turquoise waters. It stands opposite to X’keken cenote.

 

CENOTE ZACI

 

Zaci, means “white hawk” in Maya. This was the name of the Mayan Site where in 1543 Valladolid was founded. It is one of the open pit cenotes, perhaps the largest and most impressive of the peninsula. The water surface is of 28 meters width and a height from the mirror of water is 26 meters, from which the roots of trees hang. This cenote receives visitors from around the world who also enjoy the stunning beauty can also enjoy the cuisine.
