
DAY 1 ARRIVAL AT AIRPORT
Arrival at the airport of Merida or Cancun. Transfer to Valladolid (capital of the Eastern Maya Region), where you will overnight for 6 nights in a charming colonial style hotel. Welcome dinner party at the restaurant at the Zaci cenote (natural sink hole) where you can enjoy a Maya ceremonial show presented just for our group.
DAY 2 CuLTuRAL VALLADOLID
After breakfast, our itinerary for the day begins at 8:30 AM. We will pick you up the lobby of your hotel and we begin with the tour of the historic center, the Municipal Palace building and then continue with the tour of the wonderful colonial churches of this attractive Maya city. At the end of the morning we will have lunch at the most famous cenote (natural sink hole) in the region, Zaci, where our meal will be complemented with a traditional Maya dance, a fine example of our cultural traditions. We will continue with the tour along the route of the friars until you we reach the former convent of Saint Bernardino of Siena, which is renowned for the cenote that lies beneath the buildings. We will then finish the tour off with a visit to a factory where they brew regional distilled spirits. The evening is free to wander and dine at your leisure.
DAY 3 NEw wONDER OF THE wORLD
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel by 8:30 AM. Afterwards, we will pick you up in the hotel lobby and travel to Chichen Itza, one of the New Wonders of the World, where we tour the archaeological area including a visit to the pyramid of Kukulcan, the Observatory, the Temple of the Thousand Columns, the Sacred Cenote (natural sink hole) of the Maya, among others areas of the site. On the way back we will stop for lunch at a cenote. Upon returning to Valladolid, you will have the afternoon free to relax.
DAY 4 FLAMINGO RESERVE AND WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Enjoy breakfast at hotel. We will pick you up at hotel lobby to travel to Ria Lagartos Ecological Reserve which is home to pink flamingos and hundreds of bird species. We will take a boat ride that lasts between 2 or 3 hours within the boundaries of the Ria Lagartos Biosphere, where you can enjoy a close-up view of a large number of pink flamingos and birds of different species, with ample opportunity to take as many photos as you like. We will have lunch in a regional restaurant in the village and return to hotel in the afternoon. Afterwards, you will have all the afternoon and evening free to explore Valladolid at night!
DAY 5 LEGENDARY LANDS OF THE WAR OF THE CASTES
Breakfast in hotel and do fuel up, for today will be an impressive day of touring as we relive the history of the War of the Castes. We begin in the town of Tihosuco, at the museum, where we will enjoy a traditional Maya welcome beverage. Then we will tour the five rooms that comprise the museum, led by a guide from the Maya community who is an authority on the history of the collections. Afterwards, we will proceed to the church and colonial houses. Lunch is served in a Maya house, in the company in the descendants of the region, and we will be entertained by traditional Maya song and dances that reflect the culture of the Maya. After a short rest period, we continue the tour; Maya elders will demonstrate the traditional craft of weaving cotton, and the preparation of traditional medicines.
This is a full day of learning and enjoying new experiences that you will never forget.
DAY 6 A DAY AMONG THE MAYA
After a good breakfast at the hotel we will pick you up. This day is for visiting another wonder of the Eastern Maya Region: Ek Balam. This is a lovely place not only for its impressive architecture but for the warmth of its people. Best of all, you can explore the entire site and even climb the pyramid which is an opportunity to soak up positive energy before we continue with a visit to the cenote (natural sink hole) X-canche. Here, a trip full of adventure and adrenaline awaits you: walk down the path to the cenote, and upon arriving, you will be able to put yourself to the test and enjoy spirited adventures. Zip-lining, kayaking, rappelling and a chance to cool off by swimming in the cenote await you.
Lunch is served at the Maya House. After a cozy rest in the Maya hammocks, renowned for their comfort, we will conclude the visit
at the handicrafts market Ek Balam.
Afternoon arrival back Valladolid offers an opportunity to learn more the about the city with Trova Night, Trova being a traditional genre of music, and dine in one of the most visited restaurants, Las Campanas (The Bells). This tour segment is optional and not included in the tour.
DAY 7 MAYA TRADE
Enjoy a delicious breakfast in your hotel. Today we head out for a well known tourist center in the Maya world, Tulum. We will explore the archaeological site of this ancient trading center of the Maya, which is peculiar in that it is located atop a cliff with a spectacular view of the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. You will have the day to swim in these crystal clear waters and afterwards, we will have lunch at a restaurant in the area. Upon our return to Valladolid you will have the rest of the afternoon free to rest and prepare for your flight the next day.
