HACIENDA SAN LORENZO OXMAN

This hacienda was founded in 1750 and was dedicated to the production of henequen (sisal), agriculture and livestock. The construction itself resembles an ancient institutionalized hospital.  It was once an important rest stop for travelers since it was at the crossroads on the way to the towns of Leona Vicario and Carrillo Puerto, both of which are in Quintana Roo State today.  It was where travelers spend the night before continuing their onward journeys.  The Hacienda also served as a military barracks in 1847 and in 1910, during the War of the Castes and the Mexican Revolution, respectively.  After being abandoned for almost 200 years, it has now been restored and was inaugurated on 16 April 2011.

Today it is a short distance from Merida, boasting integrated hospitality services, natural beauty, an aura of Hacienda, and the cool of the underground rivers.  Oxman, reclaims its tradition as a crossroads of the region, offering an open invitation to enjoy this region, which is in the throes of a tourism renaissance.
