GASTRONOMY
Eating is a cultural adventure to be enjoyed in restaurants from Valladolid, surrounded by rich aromas and flavors. The exquisite cuisine of
Valladolid includes the following dishes: turkey kol sak, panuchos, papadzules, chicken marinade in fine herbs, smoked loin of Valladolid, lime soup, and of course, delicious roasted tender pig. It is suggested at the end of every meal try the Mayan liqueur named xtabentun, an excellent digestive prepared with the flower of the same name, anise and honey.
HANDICRAFTS
In Yucatan, crafting is traditional, since pre-Colombian time, some already exist in Valladolid like weaving hammocks , wood and stone carving, cross stitch embroidery and clay pottery . There are shops selling everything from shoes to sandals (on the second floor of the local bazaar),
fine leather bags made by local young people, who keep the ancient craft of saddlery. Workshops where elaborated gold pieces, like filigree are made, at affordable prices. Mats and carpets made out of henequen (sisal), straw hats or a splendid huipil, traditional dress from Yucatan, women wear this beautiful garment as part of our culture .
